We are on the last day, looking down as the truck is filled and people check out. The dead dog party is around the corner. But the Sunday, like the other two, was filled with fun.
The morning started with a gathering in a non-denominational prayer service. Nothing fancy. Many were in t-shirts and casual pants. That didn’t matter as there was a palpable sense of kinship. Then came a gathering of another kind, the annual Kaffeeklatsch. Authors, artists, STEM guests, and fans all came together to wake up, discuss what interested them, and of course, drink coffee.
Panels of the day included a retrospectives of the works of Randall Garrett and the Myth-Adventures series, a Superstars Writing Seminar question and answer session, and a look at the history of stained glass.
While all of this was going on, many of our guests and attendees were beginning to do that saddest of tasks, packing up from the convention. The elevators ran constantly as luggage carts were transported magically from the Lobby to rooms empty and back to the Lobby laden with everything needed to return to the Real World™. In the Art Show, final purchases were made and the artists began taking down their displays. A similar scene was being performed in the Dealers Hall as they too began the task of closing up their shops.
Finally, the last panel was done and we gathered as a group to listen to Closing Ceremonies and the famous Bitch at Brandy session. While there were lots of ‘thank you for LibertyCon’ and ‘good job to your department’, the more important things said were the guests’ and attendees’ observations. Without these each year, it would be impossible for LibertyCon to improve. Thank you for taking the time to come and give them to us.
Now the last of the packing is done, the rooms sit empty, and an imaginary lonely wind blows through the convention area. LibertyCon has ended and we wait for next year with anticipation.
As a pair of first-time LibertyCon attendees, my wife and I had a VERY enjoyable convention! Between meeting people we'd only met online to having the chance to "fangirl out" with our favorite author (SORRY Ms Lyn-Nye!) we're looking forward to attending future LibertyCons!
