Mark Haynes will present a fascinating discussion on the Fermi Paradox and Rare Earth Hypothesis.
If there is intelligent life in the Universe then where are they? Let's examine the evidence supporting these two hypotheses. This will be an open panel discussion. We will stick to these two concepts. So that means inter-dimensional aliens who live in the sun are off the table. That’s for another panel.
The Fermi paradox is the conflict between the lack of clear, obvious evidence for extraterrestrial life and various high estimates for their existence. The Rare Earth hypothesis suggests that the very unique conditions of Earth that allowed complex life to arise and flourish are exceptionally uncommon — and they’re unlikely to widely occur throughout the universe.
