I am a trained, professional gunsmith as well as recognized as having expertise with rifle, pistol and shotgun shooting. Have had CQD firearms training and have taught self defense. I was a competitive fencer for 18 years, until my knee gave out. I am also a bladesmith, have made knives and swords. Have been trained in rapier, European sword technique and some modest training in Japanese sword. Also, I began lapidary and wax sculpture at the age of 11, did it as a hobby for many years and worked my way through graduate school (M.A.history, Univ Texas Arlington) as a custom bench jeweler, jewelry designer and sculptor. Along with commercial jewelry I made my own line of Celtic design jewelry and won several awards in a number of art shows including a BEST IN CATEGORY at Dragoncon. I made custom 25 mm figures for gamers as well as a number of 'masters' for Reaper Miniatures in McKinney, TX. In addition, I designed and created the prototypes for a chess set for Citadel Military Academy.
I had tinkered with guns for years but in graduate school my passion for history and love of firearms drew me to working for a genuine 'old world style' MASTER gunsmith. I worked for him part time for over 5 years. My apprenticeship. Later I ran my own gunsmithing shop for a few years specializing in repair and restoration of antique firearms and building custom 1911 pistols and sporting rifles.
I have 18 years teaching experience - I teach science and history.
