Herb started writing as a fill in for time between plane flights when working as a trust officer. His first story was for the 1632 Gazette and was politely turned down by the editor, with the request he write another. That short story was published in the Grantville Gazette and eventually also published in the hardback Grantville Gazette VI. His serialized story, Northwest Passage, appeared in the Grantville Gazette. It was rewritten and was the first publication by Ring of Fire Press. It was the first ROF book set in North America, and covered the Danish settlements around Newfoundland and Hudson Bay. Its sequel, The French Riposte, is in preparation. He currently resides in western Wisconsin with his wife Beverly. When not writing, he’s the chairman of the Colfax Railroad Museum.
