Ben Davis has a Ph.D. in Nuclear Physics and an M.S. in Nuclear Astrophysics from the University of Notre Dame. He taught at the college level for several years on a number of technical subjects ranging from computer programming and math to, of course, astronomy and physics. In the late nineties, he took up a career in software and industrial controls engineering (robot programming and electronics are fun as they seem). As a lifelong fan of science fiction, his main avocations now involve history, futurism and skepticism. When not traveling with his wife, playing with his dogs, climbing rocks, or attending cons, he spends his spare time pondering general relativity, the search for extraterrestrial intelligence and the effects of antimatter on the dark matter/dark energy problem. Sometimes, he hunts for true psychics, ghosts and other paranormal phenomenon to no avail.

Junk Science: What is it? Why is there so much of it?
Junk Science is said to be "faulty scientific data and analysis used to advance specific interests and hidden agendas." Often those agendas are rooted in little more than fear of the unknown or misplaced dogma. Dr. Ben Davis explores and debunks many of the bizarre notions that are now made popular by the Internet, as well as any number of cable media outlets. While poking fun at a number of these beliefs, the damaging impact and alarming consequences of this type of thinking is discussed.
Science GOH Dr. Elisa Quintana will moderate this discussion of the current state of this enterprise of grand discovery, to include SETI, missions to the moons in our Solar System, searching for signs of life on exoplanets and updates from the Goldilocks zone.
Roundtable discussion of various and timely science topics moderated by Dr. Robert Hampson. This is a remarkable panel dating back to the earliest LibertyCons. Everyone gets a say but no one gets to say too much.
