LibertyCon News & Events

2016 Hugo Nominees are up!

I'm sure that you guys have heard that the 2016 Hugo finalists have been announced, but did you notice all of the LibertyCon past guests and regulars that are on there?

Just wanted to give a shout out to all of our friends, and congratulate them on making the cut!
Under "Best Novella" we have LC12 LGoH Lois McMaster Bujold up against Brandon Sanderson (LC25 LGoH)... two phenomenal writers, one award! Thunderdome!

Thomas A. Mays will be attending Liberty this year, so we can congratulate him in person for his nod for his short story, "The Commuter". And possibly buy him a beer! (ok, so it will be from the ConSuite, but it's the thought that counts!)Wink

Jerry Pournelle has been LGoH at LibertyCon a couple of times (along with his partner in crime Larry Niven) and this year he gets a nod for "Best Editor (Short Form)".

The last mention is for "Best Editor (Long Form)", and here we have two nods going out to familiar faces around LibertyCon... James Minz and Toni Weisskopf! Congrats to both of them, but if I could offer a bit of paraphrased advice... "Jim, let the boss win!"

(And to be clear... I said 'boss' and not 'wookie', so no trying to get me in trouble with Toni!)Cool

Again congratulations to all of the finalists, but especially to our friends and family!
You can see the complete list on the official Hugo Awards site

Night and Demons: The Early Horror of David Drake

Did you guys happen to catch this on the Baen Books feed from Thursday? It's an excellent writeup by one of my favorite people, Eric S Brown (Official-Unofficial LibertyCon Kaiju Ambassador), about one of my other favorite people, David Drake. And considering that horror is going to be a bit of a theme at this year's LC, it's especially relevant... plus I have to say that I've always loved David's horror writing, and I'm glad to see someone bringing it up!

You can find Eric's article here.  And do check it out if you're a fan of David Drake...  you might find out about some stuff that you've missed!

The Passing of Dr. Robert Lightfoot

Some sad news just came into our Inbox earlier this afternoon. A few days ago we passed along the information about Robert Lightfoot's health problems, and the GoFundMe to try to raise the money to help them to have a transplant performed.

We just got an email from his wife, Linda, that Robert passed away last night due to his illness.

As you know Robert was a LibertyCon regular, and a friend, and he will be missed. Our hearts go out to Linda and the rest of their family.

Robert Lightfoot Transplant GoFundMe

I'm afraid that there is some more bad news to pass along. Many of you know Dr. Robert Lightfoot, longtime Liberty attendee and panelist. If you hadn't heard, Robert collapsed a few weeks after LC28 and has been in and out of hospitals ever since.

You can find out more at their GoFundMe site, but in a nutshell his kidneys and liver have been irreparably damaged due to pneumonia and a septic blood infection.

They are currently waiting on the testing and evaluation from the Mayo Clinic to hopefully have kidney/liver transplant surgery.

Robert is a great guy, and our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Linda and the rest of their family.

The passing of Andrew Bostaph

Some sad news has hit at the end of the year. We just heard that Andrew Bostaph, a longtime friend that was always great to see at the local conventions has passed away at his home. He was only 46 years old.

He will will be missed by those who knew him, and if you didn't know him you missed out. Simple as that.

There's not much information, but you can hit his Facebook page for what there is. (https://www.facebook.com/andrew.bostaph.7)

Michael Bielaczyc's just launched a new World of Uteria adventure

We just saw where LC26 Special Guest, and great friend to LibertyCon, Michael Bielaczyc just launched his latest module for the World of Uteria and Pathfinder. It's called "The Dead Gulch", and you can find out more about it in this video. Congrats, Mike!

John Manning has passed away

Most of you have probably heard by now, but early this morning we lost a longtime member of the LibertyCon Family. Author, editor & husband John Manning passed away in the early morning. He was a very talented individual, and a very sweet guy. He'll be missed.

Deanna, his wife, posted this earlier:10370965 937440369617652 7218335946825694218 n
