Travis Taylor will unfortunately not be at LibertyCon 22
Posted 1:07 on 7/1/2009 by Weslocke
As per Timmy in The Revenge:
I am sorry to let you all know that Dr. Travis S. Taylor will not be able to make it to LibertyCon this year. Travis said in an email, “I'm sorry but I can't make LibertyCon this year. I have a family thing that conflicts. Hope this doesn't cause you any problems. Maybe next year.” Travis, we will all miss you.
All I know is that first Greg Matloff and his wife C. Bangs had a conflict, and now Travis... if Les pops up with something I swear I'm going to start looking for the black helicopters or else scanning the skies for the asteroid they're getting everyone together to talk about.
News from the Trenches

This is all lifted from the Revenge for last Friday, but thought I should repost it here:
First up, me...
Are you a kind and Giving person? Then LibertyCon wants to take advantage of you! -Derek Spraker Do you know what the main thing is that LibertyCon always needs?
Ok, you’re right… money. (And if you want to give us more we’ll graciously accept)
But apart from money, we need volunteers!
Pretty much all of our departments could always use an extra helping hand. Whether it’s in the Art Show as one of Shannon’s slav… err, minio… umm… ‘assistants’ or helping Melvin out in getting stuff lifted and toted from hither to yonder, trust us someone can use you. (Well, except in our ‘Beer Drinking Department.’ For some reason that one always seems be readily filled )
And heck if you help out in Programming you’ll just be helping in the panels you’ll be in anyway! It’s a win all around!
And you may ask, “What would I get out of this deal?”
Why nothing less than our gratitude, though we might buy you a beer. (unless you’re under age, in which case you’re still stuck with Coke. No loophole here!)
If you do feel like helping out, just shoot an email here to Timmy (tbolgeo@comcast.net) and let him know.
In all seriousness Programming could use a few bodies to help keep the massive number of panels that Kerry has put into place on track, Melvin could use a few strong backs in Operations (I said nothing about ‘weak minds’!), and Michael can always use people to help out in ConSuite… and that’s just off the top of my head. I’m sure that Art Show, Gaming, and Computer Gaming could all raise their hands too.
Now Programming:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: David Benedict, Executive Producer, Atlanta Radio Theatre Company
On July 11, 2009, the Atlanta Radio Theatre Company returns to Chattanooga, TN, with its special brand of audio drama. Featuring Our Fair City by Robert A. Heinlein adapted for audio by Thomas E. Fuller and Brad Strickland Atlanta, GA – May 5, 2009 – The Atlanta Radio Theatre Company takes their show on the road as only they can. LibertyCon 22 6710 Ringgold Road East Ridge TN 37412 Saturday, July 11, 2009 Tickets: Free with convention membership A mainstay in the science fiction fandom community for over 20 years, ARTC returns to LibertyCon for its fifth appearance. This year’s offerings include an adaptation of Robert A. Heinlien’s short story Our Fair City, where a local newspaper dealer fights government corruption with the help of the power of the press…and a pet whirlwind named Kitten. Alternating biting social commentary with wit and humor, Our Fair City, adapted for audio by Thomas E. Fuller and Brad Strickland, illustrates the flexibility of the Dean of American Science Fiction and the power of storytelling through audio. The performance will also feature other short audio subjects including a new episode of our long-running fan-favorite serial Rory Rammer, Space Marshal, created and written by Ron N. Butler. ARTC continues its year-long celebration of their 25th Anniversary by returning to one of our favorite out-of-town venues, bringing the freedom of imagination to our most loyal fans. With a strong focus on literature, LibertyCon is an ideal venue for ARTC to bring its classic stories using the time-honored craft of audio drama. There is Adventure in Sound!
LibertyCon 22 Mass Mailing flyer, and new news
Posted 12:09 on 5/13/2009 by Weslocke
Here's a link to the Mass Mailing flyer that we sent out the other day. It has all the information you need for pre-registration and t-shirt ordering.
Also on a bit of 'Pro' news, we just found out that Bob was successful in his recent attempts. It seems that when Steve Jackson came in for Chattacon a few months ago, he was really taken with Chattanooga. And since January isn't usually the best time to go sight-seeing, he decided to come back in the summer for LibertyCon and use some time around it for a well-deserved vacation. So on that note, a big thanks to Chattacon for bringing the guy to town in the first place. ;-)
LibertyCon Overflow Hotels And Misc Info
Posted 9:02 on 5/5/2009 by Weslocke
We know that a bunch of you out there haven't gotten your room reservations for LibertyCon 22 yet, even though we're getting down to the final days before the Con. Unfortunately you may not have heard that the hotel was booked solid before LC21 was over. That's right, we were out of rooms for 2009 before LibertyCon 21 was even done.
We do have a waiting list, which unfortunately is currently about as long as George Carlin's 'Seven Words You Can't Say on TV'. But please feel free to contact Brandy at bspraker@libertycon.org or registration@libertycon.org in case of special needs or if you just want to be added to the list.
Apart from that we've compiled a list of some of the surrounding hotels that are within a reasonable distance. LibertyCon has no connection to any of them, we're just putting the information out there to be helpful.
The Country Hearth Inn (the old Howard Johnson) and the Ramada Inn Express are on the same side of the street at the Comfort Inn and Suites and are easily within walking distance.....of course, walking distance depends on how much you like to walk. The Econo-Lodge is actually closer to the Comfort, but that means braving the traffic on Ringgold Road to cross to the Comfort. The Holiday Inn Express isn't listed on this map, and is about a mile away (near 'F') but is the newest construction of the group. Here, look:
